What started as a special awareness campaign for girls in skateboarding and "female empowerment" has now developed into a permanent initiative of skate-aid. With GIRLS SKATE! we want to actively counteract role stereotypes and encourage girls to pursue their interests as well as try out and develop their skills. GIRLS SKATE! is all about the strong women of the future.
This year, for the first time, we were able to organize two tours through Saxony as part of our GIRLS SKATE! campaign.
So, we could offer girls the opportunity to discover skateboarding together with our skate-aid coaches. During the workshops we could not only observe how the participants got enthusiastic about skateboarding, but also how they built up more and more self-confidence. They grew beyond their limits and their sense of community strengthened visibly. The experience of the workshops can lay the foundation for encouraging the girls in the long term to pursue their dreams, claim their place in society and grow into self-determined women.
In April and October, we traveled to Leipzig, Chemnitz and Dresden with our skate-aid teams and a mobile skate park consisting of a transportable miniramp, various obstacles and appropriate equipment such as skateboards and safety gear. We offered pedagogical workshops for girls in cooperation with local facilities. All these facilities have one thing in common: they offer kids a space to develop. We complemented the important work of the facilities with our skateboarding workshops for girls.
The workshop units were conducted by three to four mainly female skate-aid coaches. Preferably, up to 30 girls (and depending on utilization also boys) between 6 and 16 years could participate. The various children's and youth facilities were happy about the variety for the kids and were grateful for the free support.
With the GIRLS SKATE! Tour 2023 we empowered more than 450 girls!
