We empower kids!
At skate-aid Beckum, every child can discover skateboarding safetysafetyon his own terms, regardless of background, gender, or personal abilities. Because skateboarding knows no boundaries. To make getting started as easy as possible, we provide skateboards, helmets, and safety gear free of charge. No prior experience is needed—just a desire to try something new.
Why skateboarding?
Skateboarding is fun—and that’s exactly where its special power lies. At the same time, it’s one of the most effective educational tools we know: When you skate, you fall down and get back up again. Driven by their own motivation, children and teens try a trick over and over again until they succeed. In the process, they experience a sense of self-efficacy, develop perseverance, and gain confidence in their own abilities.
And that’s exactly what the kids take away from our programs: It’s worth it to keep trying. Self-confidence often comes naturally as a result.
Our Buddies
Our workshops are led by our “Buddies.” They aren’t coaches in the traditional sense. Instead, they create a safe space where children and teens can explore skateboarding on their own terms.
Anyone who wants support will, of course, receive it. Those who prefer to try things out on their own can do that, too. All Buddies are active skateboarders and have a certified criminal background check.

Workshops at the Skate Hall
We’re based at the skate hall at Sudhoferweg 93 in Beckum. We regularly hold workshops here for beginners and advanced skateboarders—in small groups and led by our buddies. If you just want to give it a try, come by for our Open House. No registration required, no prior experience needed. Just grab a board and start skating.

But we don’t just wait for the kids to come to us. With our skate-aid@school project, we bring skateboarding directly to schools—in the form of classroom workshops and after-school clubs. This way, we reach children and teens right where they spend their everyday lives.

skate-aid was founded in 2009 by educator and skateboarding pioneer Titus Dittmann.
His idea: to use skateboarding to empower kids and help their personalities flourish.
Today, skate-aid is active in more than 18 countries. As a local chapter, we’re bringing this mission to Beckum—with regular workshops, a growing network of buddies, and the support of many dedicated local people.
Mayor Michael Gerdhenrich is the patron of skate-aid Beckum.
The indoor facility is our home, but we’re thinking bigger.
One of our most important goals is to modernize the skate park in Beckum. We want the kids to have a permanent hangout right in the heart of the city… place where they can skate, meet up, and build community at any time, even outside of our workshops.
To that end, we’re in close contact with the city, decision-makers, and sponsors to make this vision a reality as soon as possible.
