Short profile

  • DestinationNamibia, Windhoek
  • Short description:Construction of a skate park, implementation of pedagogically supervised skateboard workshops
  • Organisation:skate-aid international e.V.
  • Local partner:Global Experience Namibia
  • Project period:2015 - ongoing

The project

skate-aid has been a partner of the German association "The Global Experience" since 2015 and accompanies students of the Schiller Gymnasium and the Primus School in Münster as part of an intercultural inclusion exchange at the NISE school center in Windhoek / Namibia. This center is a school for kids with special needs. It is located near the Katutura Township. skate-aid sent skateboarding staff and material three times in a row. Because of the students’ great enthusiasm a skate park was built in early 2018, which opened on February 23, 2018.
The park makes it possible to extend the sports offer to kids at the school center, but is also open to the public. Thus it supports integration, strengthens the special needs kids and helps local people to overcome their fears of and  their prejudices against people with disabilities.

The project is a joint project of skate-aid, The Global Experience e.V., Global Experience Namibia and the country of Namibia. It’s also a UNESCO measure that is funded by the state of NRW.

The project was initiated by skate-aid e.V. München and at times also supported by skate-aid e.V. Essen. Since May 2019 the project is implemented by skate-aid international e.V.

UPDATE:

The impressive skate-aid-night is just over and we’re already on our way to Namibia to visit our project in Windhoek. Just before the vacations there, we enjoyed the last sessions together and planned the next year together with our coach Michael. Among other things, we’ll establish skate-aid Namibia in 2023! Awesome news!
