A skate park for Nepal - details about the project

Nepal is a culturally and historically very strong country. It‘s home to the Himalayan Mountains and the Mount Everest. Climbing is number one popular sport and the country has produced some of the world's best mountaineers. In 2015, the country was hit by a major earthquake. Many people lost their lives or loved ones and countless were left homeless. Fate has really affected the joyful Nepalese people. We would like to strengthen the kids, some of them are still traumatized, and give them back a piece of joy of life with skateboarding. With a skate park and the skateboard as a pedagogical tool, we want to give them the opportunity to develop into strong individuals. Because just like in "real life", there are "ups and downs". Skateboarders fall off their boards all the time and almost despair at seemingly impossible tricks. But skateboarders always get up again and after countless attempts it’s there - the indescribable feeling of happiness to have landed a new trick for the first time.

We want to give this feeling to the kids in Butwal, a small town on the edge of the Himalayas in Nepal. Butwal is a town in the "Terai", the lowland region just before the Himalayas. The town is a junction for the main highways. Jagrit Pahadi, the president of "Yuwa for Change", our local partner organization, believes that the skate park will bring a lot of public traffic to Butwal and not only the kids but also the whole city will benefit from the skate park. After the completion of the park, we will conduct pedagogical skateboarding workshops for the kids.

For this we need your support! Especially in times of Corona, non-profit organizations like us are more than ever dependent on donations. Our longtime supporter Ralf Maier from "Betonlandschaften", has developed a refreshing, innovative design for our skate park in Nepal. This should not only encourage skateboarding, but also function as a community meeting point, playground and basketball court.

The implementation of the skate park in Butwal, in collaboration with our local partner organization, is planned in three stages; the start is scheduled for October 2021.

  • Stage 1: Skate park street area & container as storage area - estimated budget € 30,000

  • Stage 2: Enlargement by a skate bowl and a playground - estimated budget € 35,000

  • Stage 3: Indoor skate park & community center - estimated budget € 60,000

In addition, we need € 10,000 per year to run the pedagogical skateboarding workshops. We rely on donations to fund our project.
