The Situation

Our local partners are looking back on hard times. Over and over again they were struggling against corruption, extreme weather conditions, theft and vandalism. The project was almost about to collapse. But meanwhile we were able to combine the forces of various organizations and create a concept for a network of social- and leisure facilities in Cape Town.
Currently, project phase number 1 is in implementation where a miniramp is under construction in the development centre for street kids of the Salesian Don Bosco.
Furthermore we were offered various sites in different areas of the city to work with street kids and teenagers from socially weak backgrounds. It will be an exciting year 2010 in South Africa - also beyond the hullabaloo of the football world cup.

On-Location-Mentoring
Our skate-aid activist Torben Oberhellmann escorted the project during the year 2008 on location and was - through know-how and manpower - significantly involved in the execution of the skatepark. After the first big success, the current plans for a youth centre and the execution of further projects of this kind for the people of South Africa are running at full speed.

Fundraising: Financial donations and donations in kind
The kids are in need of the basics from skateboards to safety gear up to sneakers. The first boards could already be turned over to the organization and more shipments are already in the making. Additionally, more than 1.000 Euros could be collected already to ensure the maintenance of the skatepark and boost workshops.

Know-how-Transfer: Public Relations
We support Sentinel Boardriders with networking  aimed towards select organizations and political authorities. Furthermore, we provide them a large amount of public awareness during our strong presence in the media.
