The situation

The Vestische Kinder- und Jugendklinik in Datteln (North Rhine-Westphalia) is a cross-regional hospital offering a wide range of treatments for children and young people. The clinic focusses on long-term patients. Various facilities are dedicated to the special needs of these patients. In addition to a school, there is accommodation for children and young people who do not have to stay in the wards but who require medical attendance. Physiotherapy and kinesitherapy are focal points for the various departments.

Following various initial meetings between Dr. Martina Klein from the clinic and Titus Dittmann at the end of 2010 the idea was developed to create a skate bowl at the clinic. The idea was not simply to expand the leisure facilities for long-term patients but to include it in their treatment.
