The Situation
Our partner Rupert Neudeck (founder of Cap Anamur) and his “Gruenhelme” has already built 31 schools in the province of Herat in western Afghanistan, providing real chances for education and a brighter future. skate-aid’s aim is to also use the schools for extracurricular activities. After two visits to the Hindukusch, Rupert Neudeck and Titus Dittmann found an ideal building site for the first project.
In April 2010 skate-aid activist Marc Zanger and Gruenhelme project manager Zobair Akhi built for the first time a terrific sport- and skate facility in Karoq using only very basic building equipment (shovel and rake). The people accompanied the constructions with great excitement.
Zobar Akhi: “In Afghanistan it is not very often that someone commits themselves to the needs of children. The children’s confidence grew with every day as they realized that the playground was been built just for them.” A great motivation to continue with the work. Currently we are collecting donations for the operation of the skate hall and for the second skate-aid facility on the Hindukusch.
