The skatepark in Dodoma, Tanzania, which was initiated and realised by skate-aid received one of the three special IOC/IAKS awards in architecture. The skatepark was awarded for its social and societal meaning. The 400 m² sized skatepark in Dodoma was created in cooperation with DON BOSCO Mission, the Arnolds Foundation, CV Afrika Hilfe, Ein Herz für Kinder and the Kindermissionswerk. All together took over 28.000 Euro for this project. Additionally we could achieve colognes senior mayor, Jürgen Roters to become the projects patron. Located at the Don Bosco Institute in Dodoma, the skatepark will serve around 600 pupils as centre of sports at the school and training centre of Don Bosco.

“This award is a precious tribute to our work and shows that we are heading in the right direction”, said Max Henninger, the project manager at skate-aid.

The skatepark construction project was planned by Ralf Maier (Betonlandschaften) in summer 2011. Under the construction manager and skate-aid activist Axel Reichertz the skatepark could be optimized and constructed within 4 weeks, by only utilizing common tools and instruments. Tobias Andreae Jäckering and Kasper Mertin, both skate-aid activists, helped with the construction works, so that the skatepark was finished in June 2011. The official inauguration with Titus Dittman took place in February 2012.
